Scope of Agro-Processing Industries in Tripura

Abstract

Tripura’s favourable agro-climatic conditions offer immense scope for development of horticulture sector comprising of fruits, vegetables, spices, plantation crops etc beside agricultural crops, and has the immense potential for employment generation through agro based industries. But the surplus produce often get spoiled and is wasted due to lack of transportation, insufficient well equipped cold storage facilities, lack of market access, poor post harvest technology and processing of farm produce. The state and central governments have taken various schemes and policies for the development of the sector in the state. Keeping these things in mind, the present study has been conducted to find out the scope for agro processing industry in the state.
