dc.description.abstractJugal is a natural floral organ mutant of rice (Oryza sativacv.Jugal)thatnaturallyproducesmultipleseedsper grain, possess more than one carpel in most of itsflowers. However,theunderneathmechanismofmultiple carpelis yetnotclearlyunderstood.Tounderstandthegeneticbasis of the multiple carpels of Jugal plants, a reciprocal cross wasperformedbetweenthismutantlinewithanormalrice. CrossesbetweenmaleJugalandfemaleIR36producedviable seeds, whereas, crosses between female Jugal plants and male IR36 plants did not produce any seedsin F, progeny indicatingthatJugalcarpelspossessincompatibilitybarriers.en_US
