Abstract:
The importance of preserving and maintaining printed materials is crucial for the hearies. Fungi play an important role in destroying wood and paper Fangi are not only responsible for paper deterioration and ageing of books in the library, but also significantly affect health of the library staff. The role of fungal agents in deterioration is due to their hydrolytic enzyme activity. The cellulolytic activities case maximum damage to paper. The aim of the present work was to determine the differences between indoor and outdoor aeromycological composition of the State Central Library, West Bengal Investigation was camied out by Burkard volumetric personal sampler, placed both in indoor and outdoor environment of the library It was observed that the deteriorating activity of fungi changed with respect to the different sampling sites. Alternaria sp. Aspergill/Fenicilli group, Cladosporium sp, Carvularia sp, rust spores were the most common isolated fungi inside and outside the library Qualitative similarities were found within indoor and outdoor aeromycological content but quantitatively spore concentration differed in both environment. A correlation was made between the fungal spure types and metrological factor where each fungal tuson is affected differently by different meteorological variables,
